Tasked with creating a workplace for the newly formed Touma Taylor team of Ray White, we set out to redefine what a real estate office could feel like. Inspired by the character of Redfern—a neighbourhood known for its warmth and evolving identity—we approached the project with the goal of crafting a space that felt less like a traditional office and more like a boutique hotel or private residence.
The design responds to the way real estate is truly practiced: personal, fast-paced, and rooted in conversation. We were inspired by the Touma Taylor team’s deep connection to their community—the way they knew their neighbourhood, the people in it, and the homes they sold. That ethos shaped the brief, and the outcome.
Beyond the hotel-inspired experience, we designed the workspace itself to be highly functional and flexible. Real estate agents are rarely tied to desks—they're on the phone, in meetings, and constantly engaging.
The layout supports this with a mix of private meeting rooms, informal gathering zones, and a reimagined open-plan bullpen that adapts to team growth and fluid work styles. Custom joinery and layered materials support clarity and cohesion, giving each zone its own rhythm while maintaining a unified spatial language.
Importantly, the office is also a place for the community. The spaces are adaptable—equally suited to an intimate conversation with a first-time buyer or a large-scale presentation with a developer client. The lounge, in particular, shifts fluidly between casual collaboration, client hosting, and events—supporting both the team’s day-to-day work and their outward-facing presence in the neighbourhood.
Key areas like the reception and lounge were conceived more like hotel lobbies than work zones—inviting, layered, and atmospheric. The palette of black caviar marble, walnut, oak and linen drapery brings tactility and calm to the space, while custom furniture and Australian lighting design reflect a sense of place and personality. Glass-framed meeting rooms reinforce the values of openness and accessibility, while a sculptural pendant in the boardroom nods to the spark of conversation and decision-making.
The result is a workplace that supports how the team actually works, while embodying the lifestyle they help their clients achieve: connected, elevated, and distinctly local.
