Multi-Residential Design
Architect: EMC2
Location: Templestowe, Victoria
Developer: Chamberlain Property
Visualisation: Afterglow
Saville Residences is a collaboration between boutique developer Chamberlain Property, E+MC2 Architects and Nickolas Gurtler Office—an intimate collection of luxury townhomes in Melbourne’s inner suburbs. Conceived with the confidence of a tailored suit and realised with exacting craft, the project articulated a clear identity from the outset and sold out on launch day.
The design language draws from the discipline of Savile Row tailoring—precision, proportion and enduring elegance translated into architecture and interior detail. Seam-like shadow reveals, measured junctions and edited sightlines create a composed rhythm throughout. Built-in joinery reads as bespoke cabinetry rather than background storage: pieces with presence, fit and finish that anchor each room.
Materially, the palette balances strength with warmth. Negresco quartzite delivers a graphic, long-veined anchor; dark-stained timber introduces grain and gravity; polished chrome and stainless accents provide a crisp counterpoint, catching light the way refined hardware elevates a garment. British Racing Green appears as a saturated note—lacquer, upholstery or painted metal—adding depth and a subtle heritage inflection without tipping into nostalgia. In the completed homes, these elements resolve into textured layers that feel both timeless and distinctly tailored.
Entries are calm and legible; kitchens operate as working ateliers with integrated storage and monolithic stone moments; living spaces are tuned to light and outlook rather than spectacle. Private rooms retreat to a quieter register with layered texture and soft illumination. Throughout, the practicalities of multi-residential living are absorbed into the architecture so the visual field remains composed.
Crucially, the project demonstrates how rigorous design values translate into market performance for multi-residential development. Clear planning, disciplined materiality and a cohesive identity reduce buyer uncertainty, elevate perceived quality and create homes that are both desirable to live in and commercially compelling to deliver. The result is not just aesthetic distinction but tangible demand—properties that present with confidence, support profitable outcomes and hold their appeal over time.
